The 430-watt Philips HPS lamp is a real workhorse. When burned in a 430 ballast, the lamp gives more lumens per watt than standard 400 watt hps lamps. The light also has slightly higher blue content. When used in a standard hps 400-watt ballast, a slightly higher lumen output and better color range will occur.
These High Pressure Sodium lamps are used in greenhouses to elevate the red, orange and yellow electromagnetic wavelengths hitting the plant. This (along with shorter photo-periods) signals the plant to start producing bloom hormones. Increased red, orange and yellow wavelengths can produce higher yields and more abundant blooms and fruiting sites when quality plant foods and bloom leaf sprays are used.
It is suggested to burn a Metal Halide lamp along side of the HPS lamp to increase sugar production and horizontal growth. Increased insect attack in the final stages of HPS only bloom growth may also be experienced. |

Special Note: |
High Pressure Sodium Lamps must be operated with a compatible ballast and fixture. ANSI code can be found on the lamp outer glass bulb. |
